지난 9월 10일 리비아 동북부를 덮친 열대성 폭풍으로 홍수가 발생한 지 한 달이 지난 시점, 유엔난민기구는 5만 2,000명 이상에게 방수포, 주방용품, 태양광 램프, 담요, 물통 등 구호 물품을 전달했고, 또한 기관 간 대응을 통해 총 14만 6,000 명에게 위생 키트, 식량, 핵심 구호 물품 등을 지원했습니다.
“집에는 아무것도 남아있지 않았습니다. 매트리스와 주방용품을 받게 되어 정말 감사해요. 하지만 우리 집과 가구, 부엌이 그립습니다. 집을 되찾을 수만 있다면 뭐든지 할 것 같아요.”

수십 년간 이어진 분쟁이 격화하면서, 9월 24일 이후 10만 명 이상이 아제르바이잔 카라바흐 (Karabakh)에서 아르메니아로 피난했습니다. 아르메니아에서 30년간 활동해 온 유엔난민기구는 긴급구호 발생 첫날부터 현장을 지키며, 9월 28일 아르메니아를 긴급구호 1단계 지역으로 지정하고, 10월 말 기준, 접이식 침대, 매트리스, 담요, 베개, 리넨, 위생용품, 주방용품 등 1만 5,000개 이상의 구호 물품을 전달했습니다. 또한 핫라인을 통해 도움과 정보를 구하는 1,400건 이상의 긴급 상담을 지원했습니다.

알레포 지역에 전달한 겨울용품
본격적인 겨울을 앞두고 알레포(Aleppo)의 취약 계층에게 담요, 방수포, 성인용 겨울 재킷, 아동용 의류 키트, 카펫 등을 포함한 겨울용품을 배포하고 있습니다. 또한 오랜 내전 가운데 손상된 집들을 수리하고 복구하는 노력도 지속하고 있습니다. 82세 무사(Mousa)도 이러한 도움을 받은 사람 중 한 명입니다. 그가 아내와 함께 여러 지역을 떠돌다가 얼마 전 집으로 돌아왔을 때, 이들의 집은 소지품은 물론 문과 창문조차 없는 텅 빈 상태였습니다. 유엔난민기구는 파트너 기관과 함께 노부부의 집에 문과 창문을 설치해 이들의 거처를 좀 더 안전하고 따뜻한 공간으로 만들었습니다.
