Protection information ecosystem

Last updated:

The Protection Information Ecosystem (PIE) of UNHCR is a conceptual framework of protection information sources that establishes clear linkages between different information categories, particularly in respect of protection analysis.

Purpose:

Mapping Inter-Related Data Sources: PIE is designed to map and link various data sources, both those generated by UNHCR and external sources. This comprehensive framework serves as a reference for developing protection analysis, shaping the protection narrative, and telling the story of the people UNHCR works with and for.

Establishing Common Terminology: By instituting a common unified terminology and categorization for various information streams, PIE promotes consistency and clarity in protection communication and reporting.

Enhancing Protection Analysis and Reporting: PIE aims to influence comprehensive protection analysis and reporting, enabling UNHCR to reinforce its authoritative role as the lead protection agency in situations of forced displacement.

UNHCR colleagues can explore the various components of PIE through this SharePoint site(link is external) to understand how UNHCR integrates, analyzes, and utilizes protection information to safeguard the rights and well-being of forcibly displaced and stateless people globally.
