World Refugee Day 2004 National Activity Plan: Thailand

In Bangkok, films on refugee issues and UNHCR activities will be broadcast at the United Nations Conference Centre from 14-25 June.

From 18-22 June, several events will take place in nine refugee camps near the Thai-Myanmar border. Refugee organisations, with the support of UNHCR, will organise the celebrations.

There will be a ceremony with speeches on refugee issues by UNHCR staff, NGOs and local authorities' representatives. Cultural performances, including dances, songs, dramas and poem/essay writing will be held. An exhibition and, in some camps, a competition of arts and crafts by refugees, will be organised, as well as sport competitions. The refugee community, NGOs, local authorities and the population from nearby villages will attend.

The World Refugee Day UNHCR TV spot will be broadcast on the national TV channel and several articles on World Refugee Day will be published in newspapers.
