Sixteen-year old Farihalh hardly misses school despite her numerous daily chores. Farihalh wants to become "Minister of Darfur", the region she and her family escaped in 2004.

  • With a keen interest in propping up awareness on refugee rights around the world and Brazil, many public awareness campaigns will take place in subway stations and on urban buses in the city of São Paulo.
  • By holding an exhibition of arts and crafts produced by refugees in numerous subway stations in Rio de Janeiro from 20-30 June, the goal is to maintain the cultural ties and offer cultural and recreational activities for refugees.
  • Short 45 second spots will be screened in movie theatres and national television stations.
  • On 25 May a seminar in São Paulo targeting students and private sector will take place. The seminar will be followed by a meeting with the Representative and businessmen for fundraising purposes.
  • On 30-31 May, seminars on Solidarity and resettlement in Porto Alegre will be held in the presence of UNHCR officials.
  • Two seminars will be conducted in the capital city of Brasilia. The first, on 25 May will take place during an academic event on International Humanitarian Law. The second will be on June 7th, and will focus on refugee women.
  • A sensitization campaign is planned in local public schools in São Paulo.
