Joelle Hangi
Joelle Hangi is a refugee in Kakuma Camp, Kenya from the Democratic Republic of Congo. She is the co-founder of Refugee Artist and Authors. She is pursuing her Bachelor degree in Business Communication with Southern New Hampshire University. Collecting and sharing refugees’ stories is her passion and her career.
Through her own displacement experience and academic journey, she got an explicit understanding of what it feels like to live under refugee status. She has participated in research projects with Oxford University and the University of Geneva to sought different challenges associated with living in a refugee camp.
She studied results of policies applied to refugees and development of projects that aim at improving the refugees’ self-reliance and their rights. She aspires to work on refugee affairs to influence policies, to empower, and to support the dignity of the displaced. She is a role model for millions of displaced young women and a promoter of the girl child education. In her free time, she enjoys taking pictures of landscapes.
