Everyone Counts TikTok challenge

The Global Refugee Forum is a gathering like no other. Held for the first time on December 16-18, 2019, in Geneva, it brings together heads of government and state, political leaders, humanitarian and development experts as well as refugees themselves, private-sector companies and CEOs, NGOs, sports organizations, faith leaders and many, many others. All united in the common goal of turning the tide after a tumultuous decade which saw a doubling of the number of refugees worldwide.

At this inaugural gathering, UNHCR is collaborating with TikTok, the short-form content creation platform that allows users to create, share and discover engaging and captivating videos. This collaboration will see UNHCR launch both a TikTok channel (@refugees) and a bespoke TikTok hashtag ‘challenge’ #EveryoneCounts, based on the belief that everyone should be given equal opportunities to realise their dreams and succeed, no matter their circumstances.

"We're thrilled to see the UNHCR launch on TikTok to coincide with this unique global gathering," comments Elizabeth Kanter, Director, Public Policy, TikTok. "TikTok is a fun and positive place for people to express their creativity and we can't wait to see the stories people share as part of the #EveryoneCounts challenge."

To show your support for this campaign, you can open your TikTok account and start posting content that tells the story of your own childhood ambition, using the hashtag #everyonecounts. Recreate our sample video below or give us your own take on the challenge, set to the track "We Got Love" by Sigala feat. Ella Henderson. We encourage you to check out our account when it launches on 16 December to meet with refugees from around the world. If you share their childhood dream, duet with them to show that people from different walks of life often share the same ambitions – and that #everyonecounts.
