Helping to Rebuild Türkiye and Syria
Helping to Rebuild Türkiye and Syria
Whether through working with partners and local actors in Syria, or via supporting the government in Türkiye, UNHCR has been providing immediate responses, including core relief items and shelter support, to thousands of vulnerable families since the onset of the emergency.
Mid-term responses are now being identified and executed as all parties step up efforts to find better, longer-term ways to help earthquake victims rebuild their homes, their lives, and livelihoods.
Mid-Term Responses
-
Mid-term shelter solutions
We are evacuating collective shelters and relocating families to transitional and mid-term shelters to areas with more adequate services and more possibilities for social cohesion.
-
Psychological and mental support
We are stepping up assistance on psychological and mental health in response to increased suffering from trauma, anxiety, fear, and insomnia.
-
Gender-base violence mitigation and protection
We are committed to strengthening our assistance to victims and survivors of gender-based violence, sexual exploitation, and abuse.
-
Support on rights to housing, land and property
We are providing technical, institutional, and logistical support in response to the housing, land, and property issues exacerbated by the earthquakes.
-
Advocacy on refugee inclusion into services
We are enhancing refugee protection, ensuring their inclusion in services provided by other actors (such as livelihood support) and advocating for solutions.
-
Health, legal and psychological protections
We are referring refugees for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Non-Food Items (NFI), food security, legal and medical protection, and assessing needs on psychological support and job opportunities.
-
Shelter support
We are identifying people for safe shelter, urgent resettlement needs and referring vulnerable ones for cash-for-shelter programmes.
-
Higher-education support
We have identified 890 refugee higher-education students eligible for emergency cash assistance.
