UNHCR and KSrelief sign an agreement to support displaced people in Sudan, Chad and South Sudan

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) signed an agreement worth USD 6 million to support UNHCR’s humanitarian response to assist forcibly displaced people in Chad, Sudan, and South Sudan with urgent relief supplies.

The agreement was signed by KSrelief Assistant Supervisor General for Operations and Programs Eng. Ahmed bin Ali Al Baiz, and UNHCR senior Advisor and GCC representative, Khaled Khalifa at the KSrelief headquarter in Riyadh.

Through this agreement, UNHCR will provide emergency relief material such as shelter kits, blankets, mattresses, kitchen utensils, and other non-food relief items to improve the living conditions of those most in need, helping them maintain their health and dignity.

Khaled Khalifa praised the humanitarian partnership with King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre and renewed his appreciation for the support provided to UNHCR by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He said, “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia plays an important role in supporting UNHCR’s relief efforts worldwide. We count on its solid support which helps us respond the best way possible”. He added “This additional contribution to the emergency response efforts to the crisis in Sudan will enable UNHCR to continue and expand ongoing relief efforts and provide life-saving assistance to the most vulnerable people in Sudan, South Sudan and Chad.”

Eng. Ahmed bin Ali Al Baiz stated, “This assistance is crucial to help vulnerable displaced people across Sudan and refugees in South Sudan, and Chad. According to this agreement, 14,960 non-food items will be distributed in Sudan, 3,917 shelter items in Chad and 2,045 non-food items in South Sudan. The assistance will provide support to 100,693 individuals.”  

The conflict in Sudan has forced over 7 million to flee their homes, including refugees, internally displaced people, and returnees. With no end in sight to the cycles of violence taking place in the country, people are seeking safety and protection within Sudan and in neighboring countries such as Chad, South Sudan, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the Central African Republic, where the humanitarian situation worsens because of the continued waves of forced displacement due to the lack of safety and security. UNHCR’s emergency teams are working with all concerned parties to help forcibly displaced people by providing essential protection services and emergency relief supplies in Sudan and neighboring countries.
