World Refugee Day 2004 National Activity Plan: Bangladesh
On May 27, the Bangladesh Human Rights Journalists' Forum held a discussion meeting on "Refugee Issues and Role of Media" as part of the World Refugee Day programme.
On 20 June, UNHCR will hold a reception for the heads and representatives of UN agencies, diplomatic missions, judges, lawyers, senior government officials and academics.
On the same day, UNHCR and the Rainbow Film Society, in association with Bangladesh Federation of Film Societies and Goethe-Institut Inter Nations, will organise a seminar and screening of films. Eminent scholar Professor Dr. Anisuzzaman will be the main speaker on the theme, "Bengal Partition".
UNHCR implementing partner Bangladesh Bar Council will organise a seminar on "Accession to the 1951 Convention on the Status of Refugee" on July 1.
In Cox's Bazar, the refugee agency will organise a rally, exhibition of products by refugees and video shows in two camps to mark World Refugee Day.
Special news items and features on refugee issues will be showcased in national newspapers, and screened in documentaries and films.
