About Jouman
Jouman Fattal is a Syrian-born actress, director and screenwriter who is dedicated to supporting UNHCR and amplifying our work. She has been a high-profile supporter since 2023.
Jouman is best known to the general public for the Dutch TV series ‘De Zuidas’ and ‘Anne+’, for which she received several prestigious nominations. It is stage-acting, however, where she unleashes her creativity and where she discovers how to use her voice to speak out for marginalized groups, such as people with refugee backgrounds. Jouman’s penchant for telling underexposed and unknown stories comes through in her diverse and multifaceted work.
Recent UNHCR activity
Jouman Fattal actively supports UNHCR's work, advocating for displaced people and raising awareness. Most recently, Jouman featured as guest editor, with an exclusive interview, in UNHCR Netherlands’ supporter magazine Spring edition (in Dutch), which focused on the worldwide initiatives of displaced women.
Jouman also engages in ongoing campaigns. In September 2023, she supported our petition campaign to ensure that the Netherlands remains a country where everyone has the right to safety, and, earlier in the year, voiced a video calling (in Dutch) for Syria not to be forgotten after 12 years of war.
In the summer of 2023, Jouman stepped onto the UNHCR boat in the Pride Amsterdam boat parade. This showed support for LGBTQ+ asylum seekers and refugees, many of whom face threats, harassment and isolation throughout their journeys. Jouman supports UNHCR Netherlands in standing in solidarity with LGBTQ+ refugees every day of the year, offering protection, giving advice, and advocating for those affected by this issue. Increasing support for LGBTQ+ refugees is something Jouman is deeply passionate about.
For many people, their orientation is a reason to flee their homeland. That's why I feel a strong connection with UNHCR. They protect all refugees worldwide, no matter who you are or what your story is.
