Enlargement of the Executive Committee of the Programme of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees

At its 46th plenary meeting, on 30 July 1999, the Economic and Social Council, recalling General Assembly resolution 1166 (XII) of 26 November 1957, in which the Assembly requested the Council to establish an Executive Committee of the Programme of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, as well as subsequent resolutions of the Assembly, in which the Assembly provided for increases in the membership of the Executive Committee, took note of the request to enlarge the membership of the Executive Committee contained in the note verbale dated 26 May 1999 from the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General2 and recommended that the Assembly take a decision at its fifty-fourth session on the question of enlarging the membership of the Executive Committee of the Programme of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees from fifty-four to fifty-six States.
