Chad
Chad
Chad hosts more than one million forcibly displaced people, including 580,000 refugees from conflicts in neighbouring Sudan, the Central African Republic and Cameroon. More than 125,000 refugees and asylum seekers from the Central African Republic have fled to Chad escaping different waves of violence since 2005.
Chad is one of the largest operations in the region. With the support of other UN agencies and 40 non-governmental organizations, UNHCR leads and coordinates the refugee response in support of the Government of Chad.
UNHCR provides emergency shelter, core relief items and humanitarian assistance. We work with different partners to improve water and sanitation conditions and ensure that refugees have access to education and healthcare.
