World Refugee Day 2003: Namibia
In Osire Refugee Camp, some 11,000 refugees gathered on 20 June to support and encourage the youth to continue to live a productive life in spite of their plight.
UNHCR invited government officials, representatives from diplomatic missions, church leaders, officials from other UN agencies, and journalists. This year's World Refugee Day was particularly significant for the Angolan refugees in Osire, in the wake of the forthcoming voluntary repatriation.
Young refugees staged dramas about repatriation to promote awareness on the subject. They also paraded around the celebration arena to show different activities such as boxing they are involved in at Osire camp.
Women and youth displayed their hand-woven products.
