Humanitarians in Ukraine are updating the monthly amount of the multi-purpose cash assistance provided to the most vulnerable people impacted by the war. From 1 October, each person will receive UAH 3,600, an increase from UAH 2,220 that had been provided until now.
The change comes as the war continues to ravage the Ukrainian economy, destroying jobs and livelihoods, and pushing up prices of essential commodities and the overall cost of living. Humanitarians are committed to revising this value regularly, to ensure people receiving this assistance will continue to have resources to meet their most immediate needs.
In 2023, humanitarians reached over 3.1 million people with multi-purpose cash assistance, transferring nearly US$432 million to people whose lives have been torn apart by Russia’s invasion.
Last year, aid workers provided the same assistance to nearly 6 million people, transferring more than $1.2 billion to people impacted by the war. It was the fastest and largest cash programming scale-up in humanitarian history, carried out by over 40 organizations, including UN agencies and NGOs.
In addition to regular cash assistance, humanitarians in Ukraine are also providing people with vital aid, including water, food, health services, education, support with shelter or house repairs, and other protection services such as counselling, legal aid, campaigns on gender-based violence or mine action.
This year, over 8.3 million people received humanitarian aid in Ukraine and this work will continue to ensure people enduring the horrors of the war can receive the support they need to live with some dignity.
