World Refugee Day 2007 National Activities: Somalia

Refugees took part in environmental protection activities in the week running up to WRD, including cleaning the main road in Hargeisa.

Refugees, locals, government officials and humanitarian aid workers participated in athletics, soccer and volleyball tournaments on 19 June. Special events included a drama on HIV prevention, an art exhibition and music and cultural performances.

Articles on WRD were published from 15-23 June in the main newspapers in both English and Somali. Interviews with UNHCR Hargeisa were broadcast by Radio Hargeisa from 18-20 June along with special coverage of the 20 June celebrations.
