The 2024 global laureate is Sister Rosita Milesi. She is a Brazilian nun, lawyer, social activist and movement builder who has championed the rights and dignity of people on the move for more than 40 years. Drawing on her Catholic faith and leading by example, she has personally assisted thousands of migrants, refugees and others in need of international protection – helping them access shelter, food, health care, language training, jobs and legal documentation in Brazil.

In addition, four regional winners have been named and took part in the ceremony in Geneva: Maimouna Ba (Africa), Deepti Gurung (Asia and the Pacific), Jin Davod (Europe) and Nada Fadol (Middle East and North Africa).

For 69 years, the UNHCR Nansen Refugee Award has recognized those who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to protect forcibly displaced and stateless people.
