World Refugee Day 2007 National Activities: Greece

At a ceremony covered by the press on 19 June, Goodwill Ambassador George Dalaras gave a statement while several refugees talked about their experiences. Dalaras also appeared in a World Refugee Day spot, which was produced free of charge and aired on major TV channels.

On 22 June, prizes were awarded to 30 winners nationwide in the 12th Student Contest on refugee issues. This year's contest, organized by UNHCR, the Ministry of Education and members of the Youth Awareness Committee, was launched with primary and secondary school students invited to send in paintings, essays, TV spots and photos on the theme of refugee children.

Dalaras took part in a televised debate on refugee issues. Two UNHCR videos - "Returning Home" and "We Were There" - were also broadcast.
