World Refugee Day 2002: Slovenia

20 June 2002

N/A

On 19 June, a concert was held in the centre of Ljubljana with performances by four bands. Bosnian and Sierra Leonean refugee bands performed, as well as a rock band, Zaklonisce Prepeva, and Sukar, who played Roma music. During the concert, the Slovene Human Rights Ombudsman and the BO Ljubljana Representative gave speeches to highlight key refugee and tolerance issues. Flyers with refugees' real-life stories were distributed, and sweets prepared by refugee women were served.

On 20 June, an "open-house day" was held at the Centre for Foreigners and the Asylum Home. Visitors took a guided tour of the two institutions. Art products made by refugee children, and publications by NGOs and UNHCR were displayed. Refugee women prepared traditional food for the visitors.

Children's activities were organised on 21 June. A puppet show took place in the city centre, as well as an arts-and-crafts workshop.
