Chisinau, 18 June 2024 – The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Chisinau City Hall have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at enhancing support and integration for refugees, asylum seekers, and stateless persons within the local community.
The Memorandum was signed by Bertrand Blanc, Representative a. i. UNHCR Moldova, and Ion Ceban, Mayor General of Chisinau. This collaboration underscores the commitment of both entities to foster an inclusive and supportive environment for those seeking international protection.
Under this agreement, UNHCR and Chisinau City Hall will jointly implement programs that will focus on enhancing the ability to effectively work with refugees and address international protection issues.
One of the major initiatives to be launched following the signing of the Memorandum is the “Cities of Solidarity” initiative. This initiative aims to promote the protection and inclusion of refugees, asylum seekers, stateless persons, and members of host communities in both urban and suburban areas.
The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding marks a significant step towards building a more inclusive and compassionate community in Chisinau. UNHCR and Chisinau City Hall look forward to a fruitful partnership that will enhance the lives of refugees and the broader community.
