Field Unit Esfahan

Field Unit Esfahan

Field Unit Esfahan (FUE) was initially established as a Voluntary Repatriation Centre (VRC) in 2002 and was later expanded into a Field Unit in August 2015. UNHCR Field Unit Esfahan is part of the larger Field Office Tehran.

FUE enables programmatic access and outreach to one of the largest refugee populations in the country. With 106,000 Afghan and Iraqi refugees, Esfahan province represents 14 per cent of the entire refugee population in Iran.

In April 2017, FUE was relocated to a new office within the city of Esfahan to enhance refugees’ access to services. The office is no longer a repatriation center.

In coordination with key partners, FUE implements activities in the areas of health, education and livelihoods and also facilitates voluntary returns for Afghan and Iraqi refugees to their country of origin.

Esfahan province has a strong presence in the industrial sector and offers employment opportunities to tens of thousands of workers in Iran, including many Afghans.
