Sweden is marking World Refugee Day in a series of events all year.

In early August, UNHCR, together with the Swedish Scouts' Association, organised a role play programme involving simulated refugee situations for more than 1,600 scouts. The activity lasted for one week and took place at a summer camp on Vässarö Island. Through it, the scouts were able to gain an understanding of the trauma experienced by refugees as they flee war, cross borders and seek asylum.

In late October, seminars, exhibitions and theatre plays about and by refugee youths will be organised by UNHCR and Swedish youth organisations in Stockholm. Schools will be invited to the events.

In November, UNHCR will participate in a national youth conference held in Botkyrka, which has been designated the Youth Municipality of Sweden.
