World Refugee Day 2003: Eritrea

An essay-writing competition in English was held all for high school students over the country. Winners received prizes at a ceremony in Asmara.

Young Eritreans who have returned from Sudan in recent years marked the day with speeches, plays and a sports competition at the Goluj Youth Centre.

For 600 Sudanese refugees at Elit camp, World Refugee Day brought songs, poems, sports, speeches and a drama on the life of a young refugee. Some 3,300 Somali refugees at Emkulu camp celebrated the event in a similar fashion.
