Philippines
The Philippines hosts an estimated 264,000 persons of concern (POC) to UNHCR. Of this figure, around 134,000 (51%) are internally displaced persons, 129,000 (48%) are stateless persons or persons at risk of statelessness, and 1,400 (<1%) are refugees and asylum-seekers.
Figures for internally displaced persons (IDPs) only reflect data from the southern region of Mindanao, where UNHCR has an operational footprint. The majority of the state-identified populations at risk of statelessness are also based in Mindanao.
UNHCR supports the Philippines in ensuring that national status determination procedures remain accessible to persons of concern. UNHCR also works to provide refugees and asylum-seekers access to rights, reduce statelessness, and deliver protection and humanitarian assistance in Mindanao.
