World Refugee Day 2004: Romania

World Refugee Day 2004: Romania

20 June 2004

Kids play in a neighbourhood populated mostly by Iraqi refugees. Because refugees are not allowed to work in Syria, children often must take informal jobs to help support their families.

UNHCR and its partners presented the refugee situation to students in high schools and university faculties of law, political science, social assistance, journalism, communication and public relations.

A TV show for children was organised with refugee children. Radio shows were broadcast featuring the music of the main countries of origin of refugees in Romania.

A concert performed by a refugee band and a famous Romanian band took place. The concert included a show by refugee children with dances from their countries of origin, modern dances, poems and a message for World Refugee Day.

A seminar with journalists was also held.
