High Commissioner in Africa

This is a summary of what was said by UNHCR spokesperson – to whom quoted text may be attributed – at today's press briefing at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.

The High Commissioner leaves Tanzania for South Africa today. She will meet with South African officials and chair a meeting of UNHCR's Informal Advisory Group which gathers periodically to advise the High Commissioner on refugee issues world-wide. Mrs Ogata will then travel on to Zambia which is grappling with a fresh wave of refugees from Angola's civil war. She will return to Geneva on the 26 January.
