‘A Wish’ production team gets together, proudly to do some meaningful thing for the world.

‘Music leads you to think and believe, and brings hope to people.’ Lucia Zhou believes that idea and faith bring hope to the world when people take action to realize them.

17 students from Beijing World Youth Academy produced ‘A Wish’, an original musical CD. They do everything by their own effort, from composition, arrangement, burning, packaging, promotion and marketing. They acted out to show great concern for people who suffer because of political or other reasons, to raise fund for UNHCR and promote the message ‘Everyone has ‘’A Wish’’ ’.

Lucia, the song maker, oversaw the production of ‘A Wish’. Lead singers include Stella Sun, her fellow classmate, and Zhou You, her father. Lucia organized a campaigning team of 16 students to design marketing posters and launch fundraising activities in their school. Everyone in the team likes the music album, who stressed that ‘The meaning of our efforts overtops the genuine musical notes’, while the music was described as ‘recorded with a taste of home-made’.

As the organizer of the initiative, Lucia has participated Model United Nations three times. Lucia role played as leaders in Councils of the United Nations, she put her feet into shoes of UNHCR and experienced constraints in the political arena. ‘UNHCR is comparatively straitened, without plentiful and stable ‘membership fee’ to support their work.

‘Refugees are a group of people striving to live in extraordinary situations. UNHCR cannot reach every corner of the world, however, it is trying her best to assist refugees and save them from peril and protect them from in vulnerable situations. This inspiring and enthusiastic spirit brings hope to the future.’ Equipped with the encouraging inspiration, the young girl projects her wishes for world peace using her music.

Music expresses human tenderness. Listen to the five songs, which unveil secrets of these young people while testing their strengths and painting their dreams. ‘A talk with myself’ sings out ups and downs on the road to self-identification, realizing that the long-awaited answer was a peaceful mind. Meanwhile, the song ‘The Life’ expresses enthusiasm and passion about the future -‘We are at the beginning of the path of life. Things to believe. Dreams to achieve...’

In an outburst of enthusiasm, the young team told us humbly the music album shows simple and tender love, put thoughts into actions to promote refugees’ humanitarian needs and raise fund for refugee work. Many a little makes a mickle. It is encouraging!

In 2011, 93.7% of UNHCR’s income comes from private donors, governmental, inter-governmental donors, etc, while the remaining 6.3% from UN Funds and UN regular budget.

About UNHCR

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was established on 14 December 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. The agency is mandated to lead and coordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee issues. It strives to ensure that everyone has the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another state, with the option to voluntarily return home when conditions are conducive for return, integrate locally or resettle to a third country. UNHCR has twice won the Nobel Peace Prize, in 1954 for its ground-breaking work in helping the refugees of Europe, and in 1981 for its worldwide assistance to refugees.
