World Refugee Day 2004 National Activity Plan: Sierra Leone
The week before World Refugee Day, announcements will be aired on the radio and a press release will be published.
On 19-20 June, a discussion on World Refugee Day will be broadcast on the radio on SLBS Kenema, Bo and Kiss 104FM.
On 20 June, the UNHCR Representative will read the High Commissioner's World Refugee Day speech on television. He will also be interviewed on the radio.
On 20 June, 200 secondary school students from both the refugee and the local communities will march from Youyi Building to Victoria Park. The participants will be given World Refugee Day T-shirts and the students will hold a banner presenting the 2004 theme. A student band from Kenema government secondary school will perform, in addition to a refugee cultural programme. UNHCR staff, implementing partners and UN agencies are invited to attend.
At the end of the march, the UNHCR Representative, Mr Sesay from NaCSA and a refugee will speak. Cultural events, including drama, poems and arts and crafts by refugees will also be organised.
