Sixteen-year old Farihalh hardly misses school despite her numerous daily chores. Farihalh wants to become "Minister of Darfur", the region she and her family escaped in 2004.

  • 10-20 June: Camp-based activities: Festivals, arts and crafts exhibitions, discussion forums, sports and essay competitions, seminars, dramas, speeches and performances on the themes of peace, women's education, HIV/AIDS, etc.
  • 19-21 June: Visit to Sherkole camp (hosting Sudanese refugees) by African Union and government officials and local and international media.
  • Broadcast of WRD video on national TV and publishing of articles in local newspapers.
  • 17 June, the Italian Cultural Centre, Addis Ababa: Screening of a BBC documentary on Darfur, followed by a panel debate.
  • 19-22 June, African Union compound, Addis Ababa: Photo exhibition and refugee arts and crafts market.
  • 20 June, African Union compound: WRD festival and reception, with official speeches by African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs Julia Joiner, UNHCR Assistant High Commissioner Kamel Morjane, Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Tekeda Alemu, and His Holiness Abune Paulos, Patriarch of Ethiopia. Other activities include a refugee children's choir performance, refugee musician band, screening of UNHCR video and testimonies by Esther Mujawayo, survivor of the Rwandan genocide, and She Okitundu, human rights activist.
  • 24 June, Ethiopian Orthodox Church, Addis Ababa: WRD event including ceremony for the "Courage Award" contest with nominations from each refugee camp and urban refugees. Presented by His Holiness Abune Paulos, Patriarch of Ethiopia.
  • Addis Ababa: 24 June: Day of prayers and ceremony by Ethiopian Orthodox Church in support of WRD. 28 June: Talent shows, children's song performance and students initiative organised by Jesuit Refugee Service.
