Connecting Worlds Family
Connecting Worlds Family
Developed in consultation with refugees, Connecting Worlds Family is an innovative programme where supporters and Syrian refugee families living in Jordan can come together to share thoughts and feelings and gain a real insight into each other’s lives.
For supporters of UNHCR, Connecting Worlds Family is a chance to get a real, first-hand insight into what it is to be a refugee, to gain understanding and break down stereotypes. For the refugees who participate, it’s an opportunity to share their experiences in their own words and show that refugees have many of the same hopes and concerns as others worldwide.
In Jordan, UNHCR supports 33,000 families with cash assistance. More than 50% of those households are headed by women, who are both caregivers and providers for their families, without the opportunity of work or a sustainable income.
Why cash assistance?
Refugees have told us that cash assistance is more than just a vital source of income. It’s an opportunity for independence, a way to protect against violence and, perhaps most importantly, a route to self-respect and dignity. Cash empowers refugees to make – and take – the decisions that are important to them.
Where does support go?
The donations made via Connecting Worlds go towards our cash assistance programme in Jordan, supporting refugees like those participating, and many more. At least 98% of this donation goes straight to refugees, allowing UNHCR to provide secure funding for families month after month.
There are currently families waiting for cash assistance in Jordan. You can help change that by taking part in Connecting Worlds Family and giving Syrian refugees the lifeline of cash assistance.
