Global Consultations with NGOs

The UNHCR Global Consultations with Non-Governmental Organizations is a major and rather unique event that provides an important forum for debate on global and regional themes and an opportunity to explore fresh collaboration on advocacy and operational issues.

The Consultations have become an appreciated networking event for the community working on displacement and protection issues and offer interaction with all UNHCR’s senior managers, including the High Commissioner.

Over 500 representatives from around the world attend the Consultations in Geneva and online, co-organized by ICVA and UNHCR.

Global Consultations 2024

Background

Previously the consultations were held on an annual basis convening around 500 participants as an in-person event in Geneva. Since 2019, with regionalization and decentralization, UNHCR leadership decided that the global and regional NGO consultations will take place biennially on an alternating basis.

In 2020, the consultations took place virtually due to COVID-19 related travel restrictions. In 2021, regional consultations were organized by Regional Bureaus in all seven regions throughout the year. In 2022, global consultations took place in Geneva and online (hybrid format).

2024 UNHCR Global Consultations with NGOs

In 2024, the Global Consultations with NGOs took place in Geneva from 11 to 13 June 2024. The themes for 2024 were solutions, inclusion and gender equality.
