World Refugee Day 2007 National Activities: Pakistan

On 19 June, UNHCR took part in a forum at the National Library of Pakistan in Islamabad on the theme of "Hope for the Future." Participants were addressed by government officials and a Somalian refugee student, who discussed her experiences. The ceremony also included Afghan songs and cultural performances; a Somali fashion show and drama; and an Iranian cultural dance. More than 500 people attended the ceremony, which was followed by a handicraft exhibition and sale of refugee arts and crafts.

In Quetta, a small gathering of refugee elders and students was held 19 June at the PI centre, with patriotic poems and discussions about challenges in exile.
