World Refugee Day 2004 National Activity Plan: Uzbekistan
An art exhibition of crafts made by Afghan refugees and Afghan applied arts from private collections including refugees' collections will be held in Tashkent at the Centre of Modern Arts. As part of the exhibition, photos by UNHCR staff will show the voluntary repatriation process to Afghanistan. Drawings on Afghan issues by local artists will also be on display. A reception will follow the 18 June opening ceremony.
A book written by Afghan refugees, writers and poets living in Tashkent will be published.
The feature film of an Afghan refugee director will be screened in Muzey Kino cinema theatre in Tashkent, and in Termez.
In Termez, on 18 June, a charity concert by refugee bands will take place at the Social Service Centre "Ayol va Zamon". UNHCR will invite refugee children to visit Al-Termezi Museum.
On 18 June, a football match will also be organised between a refugee team and a local team in Termez football stadium.
A reception will be organised with Afghan food and drinks.
A public awareness campaign on the Afghan voluntary repatriation programme in Uzbekistan will be held through the main TV channels and posters at the airport, on the main roads and in the metro stations in Tashkent.
