We've developed a set of community standards to keep connections safe and ensure that the experience is beneficial to all users. Please read and agree to them before proceeding.

To make this the best experience possible, it's important that both donors and students feel safe on this platform. To help you understand what is and isn't appropriate subject matter and language, we've compiled a list of community standards which we ask you to abide by. We also have a dedicated team that reviews all messages before they are sent so that no-one can send or receive content that could be viewed as upsetting or offensive. We reserve the right to ensure these standards are adhered to.
If, for any reason, a user fails to observe the standards, we will return their message citing the community standard they failed to meet. We will offer the user the opportunity to modify their message and resend it. In instances of repeated violations, we reserve the right to ask people to withdraw from Connecting Worlds Mentor. We know that you'll understand the need for these standards and we appreciate your support in observing them. As a general rule please ensure that all your messages are respectful and polite.
Inappropriate subject matter
While it can be tempting to share personal issues or difficulties as part of your conversation, the purpose of the app is to build a deeper understanding of life in each other's countries.
Inflammatory content – religion or politics
Sometimes we want to talk about politics and sharing thoughts on current affairs can inspire fascinating discussions. But these can also be sensitive conversations. Please avoid sharing views about religion or politics that risk offending your match.
Hate speech
Please do not use incendiary language or hate speech. Make sure your message doesn't contain speech that may cause harm or upset.
Bullying or harassment
Connecting Worlds Mentor provides an opportunity to connect with a supporter. Please keep your messages respectful and polite.
Direct threats
Threats are not acceptable. This is a space for sharing and conversation. If you are concerned about the conversations with your match, please contact our team via the Support function.
Offensive language
Do not send messages with offensive language that may cause harm.
Violent or graphic content or language
Do not share violent and graphic content that may cause harm.
Promoting or publicizing crime
Do not promote or publicize criminal behaviour. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact our team via the Support function.
Sexual violence and exploitation
Messages of a sexual nature, along with messages offering or requesting sexual content are strictly forbidden. If you feel coerced into sending a message of this nature, contact our team immediately.
Photographs and inappropriate images
Please don't send or share images that include identifying information that could put you or your match at risk, such as details of your address. If you feel coerced to send content like this, please contact our team immediately.
Romance or romantic gestures
Please do not use language which is overly affectionate or language that risks making your match feel uncomfortable. Please use this app to gain insight from your mentor and to share stories of your life and studies. If you feel coerced to send this type of content, please contact our team immediately.
Unfair or exploitative requests
This is your unique chance to receive support with your academic field of study, professional and or moral support. Please do not use this app to ask for favours or requests from your match. If you feel that you are being asked for unfair or exploitative requests, please contact our team immediately.
Sharing or asking for details for direct contact
We are committed to maintaining the privacy of everyone who participates in Connecting Worlds, which is why we ask you to refrain from requesting or sharing contact details with your match, and keep all communications within the app.
Invitation to connect via social media
The app has been designed to provide a safe place for you and your match to hold a conversation in a way that retains the privacy of everyone involved. We have a dedicated team that reviews all messages before they are sent, so that no-one can send or receive content that could be viewed as upsetting or offensive. For this reason, please don't request or share social media details and keep all communications within the app.
Requests for financial support
All the supporters taking part in the Connecting Worlds experience contribute to UNHCR's DAFI programme that supports refugees worldwide to access tertiary education. Therefore, we encourage you to refrain from asking for financial support from your match.
