BANGKOK – The number of people forced to flee conflict, violence, and persecution has crossed the milestone of 110 million for the first time on record. In 2022 alone, UNHCR declared 35 emergencies, meaning the Agency responded to a new crisis every 8-10 days.
In Thailand, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency in partnership with The Standard, Tuen Travel, Choojai & Friends, I’M POSSIBLE, DOPEEYES and Na project, is organizing a second luncheon on “Emergency Action” to support UNHCR’s emergency preparedness and response efforts.
In the Silent Emergency Action event, the format of a luncheon was initiated so that social influencers, and media figures in Thailand can empathize with the daily life forcibly displaced people experience in silent crisis.
Emergency Action allows UNHCR teams on the ground to prepare for unexpected emergencies that are not in the world’s spotlight. When an emergency happens, we rapidly mobilize our emergency teams and we are ready to send life-saving tents, food, water, medicine, clothing, and other relief items from our global warehouses so that forcibly displaced people receive the help they need without delay.
