The pre-module is a quick reference guide, focusing on the practical steps for conducting a SENS survey. It is not meant to replace already existing survey manuals. To avoid duplication, the user is referred to pre-existing material on certain aspects of survey design and implementation.
The pre-module covers the following steps and the following survey steps:
Step 1: Decide on the need for a survey
Step 2: Gather background information
Step 3: Define the survey objectives
Step 4: Define geographic area and population group to include
Step 5: Communicate with stakeholders
Step 6: Decide on timing
Step 7: Decide on what measurements to make and data to collect
Step 8: Design the survey
Step 9: Obtain equipment and supplies
Step 10: Design questionnaire
Step 11: Select and train teams
Step 12: Field test questionnaire and procedures
Step 13: Conduct and supervise field work
Step 14: Enter and clean data
Step 15: Check data quality and analyse*
Step 16: Write and disseminate report
*We recommend using the PGM codes from the SENS Modules in Word format and/or the SENS Pre-Module Tool #27 where all PGM codes to analyze a full SENS survey are available, to avoid any compatibility issues when copy/paste the codes into Epi-info for analysis.
