Call for Application for DAFI Scholarship Programme For Academic Year 2022/2023
UNHCR Rwanda, in partnership with ADRA, is inviting qualified refugee students to apply for DAFI Tertiary Education Scholarship for October 2022 intake.

The Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative (DAFI) programme is funded largely by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Government of Germany. The DAFI Scholarship is provided to undergraduate refugee students and covers education fees and living costs during the study period.
This call for application is for 35 scholarship places for qualified applicants based on specific criteria listed below. Students who meet eligibility criteria are encouraged to apply.
Main Requirements
- Recognized refugee status
- Excellent academic performance: Priority will be given to applicants with highest academic performance in the national Secondary Education Advance Level exam or equivalent secondary school leaving examination. Copy of exam certificate should be enclosed with the application form.
- Equivalence: Applicants with foreign qualifications, should have obtained equivalence of diplomas/certificates provided by the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA).
- Socio-economic status: DAFI programme targets socio-economically disadvantaged applicants
- One scholarship per family: Only one young family member can apply/obtain DAFI scholarship
- One scholarship at a time: Applicants being benefiting from other scholarship programme are not eligible to apply for DAFI scholarship.
- Choice of field of study and potential for employability: Applicants should clearly express their reasons for choosing subject of study, and potential employment opportunities
- Resettlement to a third country application status: Applicants who have been confirmed resettlement status are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.
Secondary selection criteria:
- Priority for female applicants: DAFI scholarship aims to achieve gender parity in tertiary education.
- Persons with specific needs: Persons with special education needs and members of vulnerable households with identified socio-economic need among refugee students with excellent academic records will be given special considerations during the selection of candidates.
Please note that:
- The application forms are available at UNHCR fields offices in every location including field posts in the camps: Kigeme, Mugombwa, Nyabiheke, Kiziba, and Mahama. Application forms are free of charge.
- Application can be submitted by email containing a key profile applicant including full name, age, Refugee Individual Registration Number, email address, and telephone number and place of residence.
- Successful candidates will be communicated via email for interviews.
- No Late application will be received
