During Eid Al Adha, Syrian refugee families benefitted from receiving cash assistance to buy basic items like food and medicine for their children.

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency and Eid Charity signed an agreement to provide Syrian refugees in Lebanon with multi-purpose cash-assistance grants through a Zakat contribution from Eid Charity of QAR 1,000,000
The contribution will be provided to more than 4,000 Syrian refugee families (about 20,000 individuals) of the most vulnerable families in Lebanon. The grants will help them cover their most essential and urgent needs, such as food, rent, debt repayment, medical care, clothing and school fees.
While Lebanon has been facing a number of aggravating problems, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic worsened the situation. This made it difficult for the Lebanese, the migrant population, as well as, refugees in the country. According to the latest figures, Lebanon continues to be the country hosting the largest number of refugees per capita, with soaring vulnerabilities and poverty levels among refugees. By the end of 2020, some 865,531 Syrian refugees were registered with UNHCR in Lebanon, with 89% of the Syrian refugee families now living below the extreme poverty line, triggering an urgent need for social assistance. UNHCR’s operation in Lebanon is only 19% funded, and therefore the timely partnership and contribution of Eid Charity is extremely important in helping us address the increasing needs.

In 2020, UNHCR’s partnership with Eid Charity has helped over 4,821 displaced families in Yemen and Iraq, with a total contribution of US$ 2 million.
