Locations: The partnership’s geographic focus is Lebanon, Turkey, and Djibouti.
Established in Qatar in 1978, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) is one of Qatar’s leading organizations in international disaster relief and humanitarian development. It aims to assist and empower vulnerable communities without partiality or discrimination. It is globally recognized as part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which consists of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and 190 National Societies.
QRCS’ operations cover 25 countries in the fields of healthcare, shelter, water and sanitation, food security, training, and other relief aid.
Impact at a glance
- In 2014, UNHCR received the first government funding from the State of Qatar as an in-kind contribution worth a total of USD 28 million through QRCS to support the provision of winter assistance for Syrian refugees in Lebanon and Turkey.
- QRCS supported UNHCR’s programmes for Yemeni refugees in Djibouti and Syrian refugees in Lebanon in 2015 and 2016 respectively with more than USD 531,000 assisting 2,000 people.
