UNHCR organises painting competition in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, 22 January 2019: Pakistani and Afghan youth portrayed their imagination through their colours at a painting competition on Tuesday.
The theme of the event “Home away from home – 40 years of Afghan refugees in Pakistan” was jointly organised by UNHCR and Commissionerate for Afghan refugees, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in collaboration with the Department of Art and Design, University of Peshawar. Some 40 Afghan and Pakistani artists took part in the competition.
“Youth are the flag-bearers for the next generation. UNHCR will continue to provide such platforms to highlight their skills in art and other faculties,” said Dinesh Shrestha, UNHCR’s head in Peshawar.
Winners of the competition were awarded cash prizes and certificates. Mr. Abbas Khan, Commissioner for Afghan Refugees, Mr. Iain Hall, UNHCR Deputy Country Representative and Dr. Muhammad Sher Ali Khan, Chairman of Department of Art and Design, University of Peshawar also attended the event.
