Supporters can offer hope to displaced families in the Philippines and refugees in emergency hotspots worldwide through Gifts of Hope, a set of donation vouchers they can purchase individually or collectively from the shop of UNHCR Philippines on Lazada.
Vital humanitarian aid, protection from harm, life-saving shelter, and concrete ways to rebuild and start a new life.
When conflict and violence force a family to leave everything behind, these are the essentials that they will need to be able to survive and to live in a safe and dignified manner.
Across the world today, there are over 68.5 million refugees and displaced persons, including an estimated 121,000 persons living in displacement in Mindanao. Behind these numbers are people, each with their own dreams for a better future for their families.
Supporters can offer hope to displaced families in the Philippines and refugees in emergency hotspots worldwide through Gifts of Hope, a set of donation vouchers they can purchase individually or collectively from the shop of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the UN Refugee Agency, on Lazada.
Each donation voucher matches a gift that can provide life-saving assistance, protection, rebuilding or shelter to a displaced family.
For families still living in temporary shelters and evacuation centers in Mindanao , the Gift of Life-saving Aid can provide a rescue kit with core relief items like tarpaulins, plastic sheets, mats, blankets, kitchen sets, heavy-duty plastic buckets, hygiene kits, and solar lamps. Displaced families are protected adequately during the first days and weeks of an emergency when they are supplied with these items.
A Rohingya refugee family living in Bangladesh can also be given the Gift of Protection. The donation can help provide refugee registration and arrival assistance, preparation for emergencies in Cox’s Bazar, a disaster-prone area in Bangladesh, health services, access to basic social services among host communities, and psychosocial support.
Supporters can also give the Gift of Rebuilding to displaced communities across various parts of Mindanao. The donation voucher can help deliver high-impact projects to enable the communities get back on their feet. These projects include the provision of livelihood support and skills training, and the implementation of social infrastructure like multipurpose facilities, learning centers, health facilities, and water
systems.
Shelter is a vital survival mechanism in times of crisis or displacement. It ensures personal security, self-sufficiency, and dignity. On cold nights or hot days, shelter can also be the difference between life and death. Supporters can give the Gift of Shelter to refugee families from emergency hotspots like Syria, Bangladesh, Iraq, Yemen, Afghanistan, among others.
These are only four among a many gift options that can supporters can purchase. To view the whole roster of meaningful gifts, visit UNHCR Philippines’ shop on Lazada.
Meanwhile, a group of 10 can purchase a full Gift of Hope Kit, which can provide core relief items, shelter, protection, and solutions to a refugee family. Each group member can pitch in a minimum of PHP 2,000 to provide the Gift of Hope kit.
“We invite groups of friends or families to band together and make this collective gift. In this season of giving, this generous gesture can mean the world to a family who had to flee home, brave dangerous journeys, and find refuge in a new community or foreign country. Let’s make them feel the warmth of the season and help them look forward to a new year with renewed hope,” says Marmie Liquigan, UNHCR
Philippines’ National Officer for Private Sector Partnerships.
