Hannah is 7 years old. She is from Syria and lives in Berlin, Germany. When things in Syria became unbearable she had to leave with her grandmother and uncle. Her twin brother and parents are still in Syria. She misses them but her uncle says she is "a very strong girl, strong like a lion." (Extract from story by Humans of Amsterdam.) ; This photo forms part of the online series The Dream Diaries. Social media influencers Humans of Amsterdam and Fetching_Tigerss and UNHCR came together to produce the series to give refugee and asylum-seeking children and young people in Europe a space to live out their dreams through photos, stories and video. It depicts the hopes and dreams of refugee children who have fled war and persecution in Syria, Afghanistan, Somalia, and beyond. The 12 children featured in the series live in Austria, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland, where they have found new homes and a chance to dream again. The series depicts the resilience of refugee children and how, with the right support, refugees can thrive, to the benefit of both refugees and host communities alike. It also shows how the public can welcome refugees and sign UNHCR’s global petition calling on decision makers to grant refugees safety, education and opportunities: unhcr.org/withrefugees.
