UNHCR observations on Swedish law proposal “The Convention on the Rights of the Child becomes Swedish law”.
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, has submitted its observations to the Swedish government’s inquiry on incorporating the Convention of the Rights of the Child into domestic legislation (“Barnkonventionen blir svensk lag”, SOU 2016:19.
The law proposal concerns the incorporation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) as domestic legislation. UNHCR welcomes the proposal of the inquiry to incorporate the CRC to its domestic legislation.
UNHCR’s observations address the issues on which the Inquiry has found reason to present proposals, namely, children as rights holders, the application of the principle of the best interests of the child and the right to be heard. UNHCR has also address the child’s right to family unity.
