Entrepreneur and educator
Khaled Ksibe fled to Denmark from the war in Syria in 2014. In September 2016 he won the European Language Prize, a prize given by the European Commission, for his project ‘Teaching Danish in Arabic’. Ksibe was honoured for his ability to teach Danish to refugees and migrants through social media. His teaching engages the students by asking them which parts of the Danish language they find difficult and want to learn more about.
Ksibe has done the project voluntarily and some of his language videos on YouTube have been seen more than 30,000 times. He is also teaching at the language centre in the city of Odder, near Århus, and his way of teaching Danish in Arabic through social media is now a part of the official language programme in the municipality of Århus. The initiative was praised by the then Minister for Higher Education and Science, Ulla Tørnæs (the Liberal Party).
Khaled Ksibe is studying to become an engineer at Aarhus University.
