Mr. Nordentoft, a Danish national, brings more than thirty years of experience in refugee, asylum, and migration policy to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
The United Nations Refugee Agency is pleased to announce that Mr. Henrik M. Nordentoft has assumed the function of Regional Representative of the UNHCR Regional Representation for Northern Europe in Stockholm, Sweden, covering UNHCR activities in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden.
Mr. Nordentoft, a Danish national, brings more than thirty years of experience in refugee, asylum, and migration policy to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. His most recent post was as the Deputy Director of the Division of Programme, Support & Management at the UNHCR Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, with previous postings in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
“Northern Europe is a region that historically has shown important leadership when it comes to refugee protection and the Governments and civil society organizations are crucial partners for UNHCR’s work here and around the world.” said Mr. Nordentoft. “I am looking forward to continue this important collaboration at this critical time when global displacement continues to be at a very high level due to conflict and violence in many parts of the world.”
As the Regional Representative, Mr. Nordentoft is the highest representative of the High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi in Northern Europe and a key partner for the government, and civil society in the region. He succeeds Pia Prytz Phiri, who retired from service in October 2017.
