UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, has submitted our comments to the government’s proposal for a law amending the Aliens Act, the Integration Act, the Repatriation Act and various other laws (Further access to withdrawal of residence permits for refugees, ceiling on the number of family reunifications, increased punishment for violation of the entry ban and violation of duty to stay, notify and report, reduction of benefits for dependents, etc.).
This is a complex bill with more than 100 amendments, which in numerous areas change the situation of refugees, amongst other things as the possibility of a long-term stay in Denmark becomes limited. At the same time, sanctions are implemented against a larger group of foreigners, including regarding requirements to stay in a certain place under strict control measures and with extended sanctions. Finally, the financial support is once again reduced for refugees.
UNHCR’s comments are preliminary and partly based on previous law observations from January 2016.
UNHCR’s letter with observations is available here.
