On 20 June, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is marking World Refugee Day in Stockholm – a day to honour the resilience, strength and courage of the many refugees across the globe.
We are passing the mic to a group of people with a refugee background and important stories to tell. They are participants from our Refugee Speakers Programme, a project launched last year by UNHCR in collaboration with coaches from TEDx organisations.
In a world with more than 100 million people forcibly displaced, and as new wars and conflicts erupt while protracted crises persist, we need to remember that behind each figure is a human being with a story.
“Listening to the stories directly from the people forced to flee will hopefully create a kinder world with better informed society.”
Participant in the Refugee Speakers Programme
Join us on the evening of 20 June and listen to the participants from Afghanistan, Syria and Ukraine who will take the stage.
They will share their personal experiences of fleeing home, of dangerous journeys, of separation and uncertainty, but also of hope and building a new life in Sweden.
The event takes place at Norrsken House in central Stockholm (Birger Jarlsgatan 57C) and will be held in English.
Tickets are free but limited due to the capacity at the venue. Register here to get hold of tickets for the event.
