World Refugee Day 2007 National Activities: Kenya

A WRD sports day was held on 16 June at Nairobi's Pumwani Boys Secondary School. Various refugee communities, as well as schools hosting refugee children, fielded teams. On 20 June, a major event was held at City Stadium in Nairobi. There was a football match between refugees and Kenyans, and cultural performances by seven groups representing refugee communities in Kenya. High Commissioner António Guterres gave a press conference on his visit to Sudan, while UNHCR gave a reception for donors, government officials, aid agencies and the media.

In north-east Kenya's Dadaab refugee camp, refugee children performed traditional dances, poetry recitals and songs. At Kakuma camp in the north-west, some refugees talked to people in Japan via a videolink while others took part in special sports activities.
