World Refugee Day 2004: Togo

World Refugee Day was celebrated in Lomé by the refugees, UNHCR's operational partners and government officials. Radio programmes, civic activities such as cleaning of the Lomé Central Hospital and sports activities were organised for the day.

On 20 June, the Togolese authorities gave the first ID cards to recognised refugees in Togo. Following many years of efforts, this event was an extraordinary achievement for UNHCR.
