BEIRUT, Lebanon 17 December – UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, welcomes a multi-year contribution of US$ 6.2 million from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) which will be critical to provide life-saving assistance to refugee and Lebanese communities across Lebanon.
“This new contribution reflects the Republic of Korea’s steadfast partnership with UNHCR, enabling communities to benefit from improved access to safe and dignified shelters, as well as promoting community engagement, social cohesion and empowerment of refugee and Lebanese communities through Community Development Centres (CDCs) across Lebanon,” said Ivo Freijsen, UNHCR Representative in Lebanon.
This initiative is aligned with the Government of the Republic of Korea’s Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus Implementation Strategy and will serve as a model for effective collaboration between Humanitarian-Development-Peacebuilding actors under the Lebanon Response Plan 2024 and beyond.
“The Republic of Korea has continuously expanded its cooperation with UNHCR to provide protection and assistance to the most vulnerable in Lebanon. KOICA’s support is a crucial step in strengthening social cohesion between refugees and host communities, ensuring a safe and sustainable future for them. We are proud to contribute to saving lives and rebuilding communities through this partnership. We also hope that this project will help stabilize conflict-affected areas in the aftermath of the ceasefire agreement, ” concluded Mr. IL Park, Ambassador of Republic of Korea to Lebanon.
UNHCR extends its gratitude to the Republic of Korea for its unwavering solidarity, at a time when it is needed most.
