BEIRUT, Lebanon 8 November (UNHCR) – UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, welcomes vital new funding from the Government and the People of Japan to address the urgent needs of internally displaced families in Lebanon.
The intensifying hostilities and sustained airstrikes have led to an increasing number of displaced people, heightening humanitarian needs across the country.
With the timely support from Japan, UNHCR will enhance lifesaving interventions, including the distribution of core relief items and rapid shelter response in collective shelters and informal settlements. The funding will also enable UNHCR to provide essential protection services focusing on high-risk cases and ensuring access to specialized support, such as psychosocial assistance and psychological first aid.
“As hostilities continue and temperatures begin to drop, Lebanon is facing a humanitarian crisis of unprecedented scale. The unwavering and timely support from the Government and People of Japan is crucial to addressing the growing needs,” said Ivo Freijsen, UNHCR Representative in Lebanon.
UNHCR’s emergency response continues to focus on supporting all affected communities in Lebanon, including both Lebanese and refugees.
“With more than 1.3 million people affected and urgent needs escalating, this emergency grant will help deliver critical humanitarian assistance to Lebanon through UNHCR. The ongoing escalation has compounded pre-existing challenges across the country and exacerbated the hardships of already vulnerable families, which necessitated a rapid response to alleviate the burdens of the targeted communities. Japan, as always, will continue to stand by Lebanon and its people during these challenging times.” concluded Mr. Magoshi Masayuki, Ambassador of Japan to Lebanon.
